Some interesting news: big Costa Rican tourist destination becomes an ACTIVE volcano!
Sorry I've been a bit too busy to blog lately, but this article caught my eye today - the Costa Rican volcano of Arenal is a popular tourist destination - so I'm sure many will be watching the news to see if anything más serio develops!
Alerta por leve erupción en el volcán Arenal
San José.--La Comisión Nacional de Emergencias de Costa Rica (CNE) declaró una situación de alerta verde en las áreas aledañas al volcán Arenal, en la zona norte del país, que ayer registró dos leves erupciones, informaron fuentes oficiales.
El Arenal, que es el volcán más activo de Costa Rica, inició la tarde de ayer una "producción de flujos piroplásticos" o avalanchas incandescentes de lava que descendieron por el costado noreste del coloso, indica un comunicado del Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico (Ovsicori).
Según el Ovsicori "el flujo tuvo dimensiones moderadas" y fue acompañado de una nube de ceniza sobre el volcán.

Wow, it's starting to erupt! I was in Costa Rica en el verano del '98 e incluso fui al Arenal. Qué cosas.
