Lesson of the Week: Spanish Family Words - La FamiliaFrom the Musical Spanish Travel Phrases Family is very important throughout Latin America, and it is not uncommon for children to live at home until they get married, and for the grandparents to live there as well. You'll also find that people talk a lot about their families - so learning these words is vital. When referring to 2 people of the same category - for example your abuelo and abuela, you make it plural by adding an "s" to the masculine form - or mis abuelos = "my grandparents." When referring to 2 people in the same category who are both feminine, you would use the feminine plural form: tus hermanas = "your sisters." It's interesting to note that the word for girlfriend and fiancé - novia - is the same in Spanish. This might be interpreted as a sign that courtship in Latin American is taken quite seriously!
