| Welcome
to Vol. 33 of the Spanish Online Newsletter! Your weekly Spanish
learning with mp3s, as well as links to Spanish travel spots and
more. I've been busy trying to find good software for our newest
site Spanishsoftware.net
- if any of you have used a program that you love please let us
know! I get a lot of catalogue requests, so I finally put a small
one together in a little magazine called The
Spanish Spot. Since last week we looked at cognates or easy
words to translate, let's look at the opposite this week - false
cognates! Words that aren't as easy as they look. Les deseo un fin
de semana lindo a todos...
Lesson
of the Week: Amigos Falsos - False Cognates
Beware
of words that are not what they seem! A word that looks or sounds
similar to one in English but actually has a totally different
meaning is called a false cognate. Below are
some of these tricky little guys.

Spot of the Week

Colonia,
Uruguay
This charming
little town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and just a ferry ride
from the Buenos Aires. It's often used as the easiest point to renew
your Visa for foreigners living in Argentina (that's why I went
anyway!) With its old cars, lighthouse, & cobblestone streets,
Colonia is a world apart from the hectic pace of Buenos Aires. For

Rosetta
Stone Spanish
CD-rom for PC or Mac
I've always
really liked the Rosetta Stone programs - and used the Italian one
extensively before traveling to Italy. The system is almost entirely
picture & audio based - forcing you to learn without thinking
a lot about grammar rules. This method gets you speaking w/ a focus
on pronunciation. The course is also organized to help you build
your language skills in a logical progression of things you need
to know. $19.99 Read
